The Golden Pass LNG terminal site is located approximately 10 miles south of Port Arthur, Texas and two miles northwest of Sabine Pass. It is bounded by wetlands abutting Texas Highway 87 to the west and south, and the Sabine-Neches Waterway (Port Arthur Ship Channel) to the east and north. The terminal facility is located in Jefferson County, Texas with a pipeline to be constructed to the north allowing connections into existing intrastate and interstate pipelines.

The Golden Pass LNG project plans to import LNG to provide approximately two billion cubic feet per day (BCFD) of natural gas to help meet growing Texas and U.S. natural gas demand. This project, with a proposed start-up in 2009, is expected to provide a reliable, long-term and competitive source of natural gas. This site would also provide an efficient economic location for connecting to the existing natural gas pipeline system.

The project includes:

  • Dock and unloading facilities for double-hulled LNG ships;
  • Five LNG storage tanks (approximate capacity of 155,000 cubic meters each);
  • Vaporization equipment to warm LNG to its natural gas state;
  • Associated pipeline facilities and equipment required to transport natural gas from the LNG terminal to existing intrastate and interstate natural gas pipeline systems.
The Golden Pass LNG Terminal will contain a dedicated slip, berths and unloading facilities located adjacent to the Sabine-Neches Waterway (Port Arthur Ship Channel). The slip would accommodate two LNG ship berths and tugboat operations. Berths would be designed so that the whole ship will be located within the slip and outside of the existing ship channel. One LNG ship, visiting the terminal about every two days, would be able to supply LNG equivalent to approximately two BCFD of natural gas to the terminal.

The associated Golden Pass LNG pipeline will extend approximately 70 miles from the terminal to an interstate interconnection near Starks, Louisiana. The pipeline will cross three counties in Texas and one parish in Louisiana. A short lateral is also planned that will tie into the industrial area of Beaumont.
